The European General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) has set the benchmark for consumer data protection, requiring companies to set out not only the way that their data is collected, but also to clearly state what these data will be used for. Such regulations will gradually be adopted by more countries around the world, as companies and governments realize the value of data as the world shifts towards a more data-driven economy.
Eventually, governments will strictly regulate how data is used, and companies might eventually have to clearly account for how their data is stored and used. Data as a service (DaaS) will become more popular, as companies will be able to extract insights from the data while ensuring that it is not being used for any malicious and nefarious purposes.
